WHY CURE AVN

AVN is a “heart attack” of the bone…

As devastating for anyone who loves movement as a heart condition can be

AVN is a condition that affects the most healthy among us and ruins lives unexpectedly and rapidly all because of an inexplicable and random blockage to the blood supply which results in the collapse of the joint without warning.

Like a heart attack it can ruin lives.

But with the right the focus and collaboration, AVN can be unique pathway for understanding how to improve novel and regenerative cures in orthopedics that focus on the primary value of a healthy blood supply.

AVN can be a catalyst and an inspiration, and those afflicted with it can find purpose from their pain.

We believe that work on AVN can influence advances in health technology and buding regenrative approaches that can change the world.

WHAT IS AVN

Life is about blood supply.

AVN is a disease where the blood supply to the bone is disrupted and the bone starts to “die” or “crumble” — made worse by the element of the force put through the bone which is normally essential for bone strength, development, and successful function.

Like a roof with damaged beams, avascular bone starts to cave in or “crater” damaging surrounding tissue resulting in deformity, joint immobilization, and, like with a rotting tooth, tremendous indescribable pain that is like the tissue decaying from within.

You will never feel it begin…won’t know it’s bad until it is too late.

AVN IS YOU

Most AVN is deemed idiopathic (no known cause) and detected too late for traditional conservative bone preservation approaches, which themselves often fail even in earlier stages.

The majority of AVN patients are exceptionally young and otherwise vital, many highly athletic, and otherwise ill-suited to hip implants which limit range of motion, have a shelf-life, and can induce infections, loosening, dislocations, and are susceptible to poor integration, and debilitating bone loss or complications when they need to be replaced within 7-10 years.

Imagine this is you, at any moment you can lose everything you worked for.

Imagine your child having a lifetime of repeated implants…

Imagine your favorite sports icon or dancer having a career ended suddenly…

Imagine your military facing loss of full action after dutiful service due to an unforeseen reaction to a traumatic incident…

AVN patients are stigmatized and often neglected by the field of research, and orthopedists throw up their hands because it is simply too difficult to treat especially in loaded joints like the hip.

WHY HUNT FOR A CURE

Hip implants relieve pain for many and have functioned well for many but they are also known to have many problems.

Hip implants are known to have many problems

seldom advertised, especially for those so young and athletic, including:

Z

Limiting range of motion

Z

Durability issues

Z

Infections

Z

Loosening and dislocation

Z

Poor integration

Z

Leg-length discrepancies

Z

Complications with activities

Z

A feeling of having something just “different” permanently in your body

Z

The need for repeated additional procedures and replacements of the replacements

Z

Massive bone loss of healthy bone

Z

Limitations to sexual activity

All exacerbated even more for the AVN patient whose blood supply has been affected and therefore has even worse native bone in which to imbed the traditional implant.

WHY WE FIGHT FOR THE LITTLE GUY

AVN is an Orphan disease

Therefore, it fails to get adequate attention from big pharma, traditional Orthopedic educational institutions and organizations, and life science companies.

Traditional Orthopedic implant companies typically do not see the need for the hunt for alternatives… and conveniently, in so doing, they continue to corner the market with the stigma that AVN is incurable and the only remedy is a hip implant they manufacture.

If this happened to you or your loved one… a young child… your sports role model… and you were told the only solution was an implant that could limit them for life…
Wouldn’t you want to find another way?
